An Afternoon Tea Party

An Afternoon Tea Party Centerpiece
Not long ago my mother-in-law and I went to a big furniture store just to browse around.  I love this place because, not only do they have sofas, chairs, tables, etc., they also have decor pieces.  When I saw this vintage repro tea crate, I knew I had to get it and to stage it as an afternoon tea party centerpiece for the dining table.

I started with a vintage lacy trimmed doily from Mr. B's grandmother.

I have been wanting to use my collection of Hazel Atlas luncheon plates and cups forever and this seemed to be the perfect vignette for them to be out on display.

The crystal clear beads on the plates fool many into thinking they are from the Candlewick collection.

Even the cups fool many with the beaded handles.

My new to me silver tea pot is perfectly at home in this setting.

No afternoon tea is complete without some finger sandwiches.

Little tastes of egg salad and cucumber sandwiches with ripe red strawberries for pops of color.
An Afternoon Tea Party Centerpiece
I received this beautiful red canning jar from a dear blogging friend some time ago and it was such a pretty addition to my centerpiece. Especially filled with marked down flowers from the grocery store!

Why they were marked down I don't know!  Look how sweet they are!

They make me long for Spring!

  2. So sweet !
Love your table setting and the fresh flowers are beautiful. The little sandwiches look so delicious and I love egg salad. In the 1950s/1960s those little luncheon plates and cups were a must for showers or parties. Lovely set. I passed up at set with box this morning at a Thrift sale. Just do not have a use for them anymore. Thanks for setting a pretty table for us.

  5. That would be three lumps of sugar please! I must have one of those delicious looking egg salad sandwiches too (I have wanted egg salad all week). You set such a lovely table for tea dear, your Hazel Atlas luncheon plates are simply divine and the silver is just fabulous. Thank you so much for inviting me for tea, it does get lonely for me stuck in the house all day with only my husband to talk to. Truly we must do this again sometime.

  13. Beautiful setting on your table Kathe! Nothing like an afternoon tea with mini sandwiches and fresh fruit. I often see those cute cups with the bubble handles at our thrift. Love them and have been tempted to pick them up, but I made myself refrain. lol! Not an easy thing to do. Thanks for sharing with SYC.

  15. Hi Kathe, I have one of these vintage plates too but had no idea that it belonged to a set. I imagine I picked it up as a thrift store many years ago. Since I only have one, I use it for a relish tray with pickles, olives etc at the Holidays. So I found your Afternoon tea party very interesting indeed! Thank you for stopping in and linking up with us this week on #TheWeekendSocial. We love your ideas and hope to see you again this weekend on KitchenDreaming.com. We have pinned, stumbled & added your link into yummly.

  19. Kathe,
I love the sweet setting of your table. It reminds me of a simpler time in life when what you did to show people you care about them was make a special effort to feel welcome. I'd love to come by and have lunch in your lovely home.
    Happy Creating,
    Karen Marie
