Honing My Photography Skills

Now that the weather is to the point that I want to be outside all that I can, I decided to play with the camera I received at Christmas and work on my photography skills.  My camera is a Canon Rebel T3i.  Prior to this camera, most of my photos came from my iPhone, so there has been a learning curve for me. My subjects were a cherry tree and a plum tree blooming in our backyard.

  1. Your fruit trees are so pretty and your pictures are great! I just bought myself the very same camera and I LOVE it! I know what you mean about having a big learning curve. I've only used the auto setting and hope to learn how to use all the other settings some day. I hope you'll post more of the pictures you take with your new camera!

  7. Lovely pictures! I have so much fun taking pictures in my back yard, and I think I would be broke if it weren't for digital (hard to imagine we used to pay $20+ for every 36 shots!

  10. I just finished taking classes and it made a tremendous impact on the quality of my images. It seems so daunting in the beginning; but once you understand manual, it's so easy! Your images are lovely.

  13. Pretty! I've been practicing on our blossoming trees as well. I've been waiting for this time of year for awhile now. It's the best kind of practice - right in front of my house. Your pics look great!

  14. Isn't it fun? Advise you to get 2 memory cards dedicated to blog fun. It is really aggrivating when you go out and discover you left your memory card in the computer during the last download!

  19. Love it, Kathe! I love how you hyper focus on certain elements and blur out the background. The images are so sharp. I only use my iPhone and a glorified point-and-shoot, so I'm continually impressed by other bloggers' photography. You're doing great! :-)

  20. Very pretty Kathe! I had to go back and reread what kind of trees they were because I thought they were Dogwood. I am Nikon girl myself, but my husband's uncle is a hard core Canon guy. Every time we get together we have to compare/contrast our cameras. ;) Have fun with your new toy!

Right now I have a Canon point and shoot, and my iPhone. I am sooooo looking forward to the day I can open up a T3i box and call it mine. =0)
I really like photos of cherry tree blossoms. You had a great photo shoot!

  24. Great photos, Kathe...I would love to learn more about my camera (Olympus) so my photos would be better.
Hope your plum tree fared better than ours...the harsh winter killed the center of it...trying to decide if I want to prune it or just cut it down. It is sorry looking!
    Have a wonderful weekend

  28. Your photos are lovely. I am researching for a new camera. Is yours wireless? I think I have a decent photo, but when I download it becomes obvious I should have taken more. :)

  31. I have been saving this post until last. I am in the market for a new camera and am really interested in your experience with your new camera. The cherry and plum tree blossom pictures are very good. I like the crispness of the blossom and the softened background for this kind of picture. Keep us posted on your learning curve. It will be great to get an honest review on a product (as opposed to the paid for kind of review).
