Craft Fail

My buddies Jen over at
and
Janel at
have started a new
every other week
Stinky Linky Party!
Stinky Linky Party
The only rule is:
Your link must be to a blog post that is stinky smelly, stinky because it's terrible, stinky because it was a pain in the neck, stinky because you can't take pictures worth squat.

Well there is another party coming up
and I do have something worthy to
link up.

You may remember
and the round glass globe I bought
fully intending to get all
crafty on it and have a pretty new
piece of art for my garden.

Let's just say that "art" is subjective
and beauty is in the eye of the beholder shall we?

In the past I have taken nail polish
and poured it into clear glass
Christmas ornaments and they have
turned out beautifully.
I was sure I could do the same
with this globe.

 I gathered a couple bottles
of nail polish from my stash
and prepared to create beauty.
I poured them all in, and swished them around like I did
with my Christmas ornaments.
Nothing happened!
They swished some but, it was quickly
apparent I was going to need a
55 gallon barrel of nail polish
to cover the inside of the globe.
I didn't have a 55 gallon barrel of nail polish handy
so, I thought maybe if I dumped in some nail polish remover
it would thin it and thus become swishable.

I was wrong.

Plan B.

I let the polish and remover dry and
then watered down some craft paint
and swished that around.

Unfortunately it only covered where there
was no polish.

It turned out all blothchy
and unevenly covered.
And, it smelled like a
nail salon the day before Prom!
Stinky!

I put it out in the garden anyway.
I kept it away from my roses
so that it didn't stink those up.
Luckily, the plants
have grown up around it
making it less noticable
In fact, if you stand back far enough,
it looks pretty darn good!
  What about you?
Do you have a project that,
in your mind, was going to
take the blogging world by storm
but, wound up being a ole fail?
Dig out those photos, if you haven't burned them,
and share them at Jen & Janel's party.
We are not alone!

And don't forget to come by on Tuesday's
formy link party.

  1. Thanks for sharing your stinky globe project. Yes, I do have quite a few stinky projects where try turn to fail. I think your globe appears to be an alien life form living in your garden. Just quirky enough for you to have planned it all the time to look just like that!

  2. Is it bad that I think it actually looks good?

  3. LOL - What a great idea for a party :) I agree with, Laura - I think your globe still looks good!

  5. LOL! I can feel your pain! Mind you to be fair, your globe looks pretty good in your garden! But it's so annoying when a brilliant idea doesn't turn out right!

  6. Looks pretty good to me. But I know exactly what you mean. And sometimes it's after putting in hours of work on a project that just doesn't end up what we'd envisioned!

  7. How funny! It looks pretty good to me but I'm not much of a crafter! Fun party! hugs, Linda

  8. Looks good from where I sit! Great idea, anyway. I have a couple of these globes, wondering what to do with them. I don't think I'll try nail polish, though. ;)

  9. I am currently in the "to-be-continued" stage of one of those "brilliant DIY projects going to take the blog world by storm"... that ended up falling apart catastrophically two days after I made it! My hubby seems to think he can put it all back together somehow, though (so it will stay)... so I refuse to call it a "fail" until all attempts at revival have been exhausted! Saga to be continued...

  25. You are so brave! I never share my craft fails. Of course, you call this a fail when it still looks ok. My fails are shameful. Thanks for sharing at Gettin' Krafty!

  26. Cover it with some flat, iridescent marbles and it will look terrific! The blotchy color will not look blotchy any more.

  27. Yes, we all fail sometimes. I am all about embracing the imperfections so this is a perfect example of that. It's pink so it's all good really.
Thanks for linking up this week!

You know the old saying, "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again" Thanks for sharing with Share Your Cup.
