Exotic Blue & White Table

I haven't set up a table
in a few weeks.
I have been playing outside
when the weather allows.
I have missed putting a table together
so, I took advantage of a recent
rainy day and put this simple one together.

I had purchased the
Johnson Bros. plates,
on sale,
at Home Goods months ago.

I bought them knowing I wanted to
use them with
the small blue and white plates
that were my mother's.

I don't know where or how she got them.
 They are marked with
Made In Occupied Japan
I do know that I have always found them very exotic.
I also have the matching teapot.
It is missing the lid
and the spout is chipped.
The tablecloth belonged
to Mr. B's grandmother.
He brought it back from Canada
when she passed away last year.
The fence you see on the embossed pattern
almost perfectly matches
the pattern on the dinner plates.
I kept the flatware simple
and used my favorite
dark blue napkins.

I had found these
Oriental soup spoons
at Cost Plus World Market
for only .99 cents each.
Since I don't have the top
for the teapot I used it
to hold an orchid.
A pair of bud vases from Ikea
display a few
stems off my new Knockout Rose bushes
for a pop of color.
The blue wine stems come from the Dollar Tree.

The candle holders are also from Ikea

I always share my tablescapes with
and

Click here to see where else I may be partying this week.

Don't forget to come by on Tuesday's
for the link party.

  1. First of all CONGRATS on 100! I bet you never guessed it would go this fast!

I have the Blue Willow dishes that I use on our "Family Day" celebrations; when we have a special meal and party each anniversary of the arrival of our babies born in Korea. You'll see lots of pieces to the set, thrift stores are a spot to watch for bowls and dessert plates. It looks so cute with your vintage tablecloth! What a thoughtful husband to pick up something meaningful from Grama's estate!

  21. Your little plates Made in Occupied Japan are really special. I have a child's teaset that my grandparents gave one year to all the little girl grandchildren which bears that mark. It is somewhat worse for the wear because I played with it a lot!

  23. Kathe, I've never seen a textile in the Blue Willow pattern. It's lovely! I have my mom's children's tea set in Blue Willow. Well at least the few remaining pieces. I did a post on it once. If interested, you can find it on my sidebar under the Label - Blue Willow.

  27. Hi there! I've missed seeing you here!!! Congratulations on #100!!! That's gotta feel good! Here's wishing you 100 more in the coming year! Ha!!! You would be one busy little bee if you did that!!! The word you chose, "exotic", is the perfect one to describe the plates and teapot. It really does make you think of old Japan! Great choice on the tablecloth, too. I noticed that the design was very similar to that of the plates. Way to go! Your knockout roses are really healthy and pretty! Love the color!!! Have a safe and fun holiday weekend!!! See you at #101!

  49. Hi Congrats on 100th post! I'm a new follower and found your link at Type A Decorating. Love your blue and white table setting. I collect lots of blue and white and cobalt glass pieces. I started with a vegetable bowl with the blue willow pattern but found it difficult to find many of the pieces. I also have a teapot but not as gorgeous as yours, even with the missing lid. : )
Hope you'll visit and join in on my Frugal Treasures Tuesday party.
